Gregory I. McMurray has been practicing law in California since 1998 and has significant trial and courtroom experience. During his legal career, he has handled more than 4000 cases and has argued over 350 motions. He has extensive experience with jury trials and has handled more than 100 court trials.
Gregory I. McMurray is a native of Southern California and earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California at Los Angeles. After graduating from UCLA, Gregory I. McMurray attended the College of William and Mary where he earned his Juris Doctor degree. While living in Virginia, he clerked for a law firm specializing in family law.
Upon his return to California, Gregory I. McMurray worked as a deputy public defender in both Kern and Ventura Counties. As a deputy public defender, he defended a wide variety of felony and misdemeanor cases, including domestic violence, sexual assault, theft, assault & battery, DUI and other alcohol and drug related offenses. During his time as a public defender, Mr. McMurray also spent significant time handling juvenile court matters.
Throughout his career, Gregory I. McMurray has demonstrated a dedication and commitment to community service. He has volunteered as an attorney coach for a high school in the California Mock Trial Program, worked as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, assisted in the dependency courts, and currently serves as a Judge Pro Tem for the Superior Court of the County of Santa Barbara. Gregory I. McMurray is an adjunct professor of family law and criminal law at the Southern California Institute of Law, he is a licensed California Real Estate Broker and served as a board member of the Santa Barbara County Bar Association.
Currently, Gregory I. McMurray handles all types of family law, criminal law and personal injury cases. In addition, he has a wide range of experience in the areas of estate planning, probate matters, guardianships, conservatorships, and juvenile dependency.

Mr. McMurray exceeded my expectation on a custody/visitation and child support matter. Going through a court process can be intimidating, extremely stressful and overwhelming, however, hiring Mr. McMurray was the absolute best thing I could have done for me and my children. Greg McMurray was a great find! A lawyer with impeccable credentials, known and respected by local lawyers and judges, with an approachable communication style that puts the client at ease while still conveying all the important information, extremely knowledgeable about the law, and experienced in how best to advocate for his clients. I wish I had found him sooner! He is worth every penny (saved me lots of money in the end). I would have used him in my family law case if I had known about him earlier.
Greg defended me in a criminal case that resulted in all charges being dropped and my record left clear. It was a result that I deserved, but didn't believe I would receive. In fact, I wouldn't have, with a lesser advocate. Greg made me aware of the challenges in my case, what he saw as our path forward, and he made sure I was prepared at every stage. To be 100% honest Greg did an outstanding and amazing job with my case. I needed an attorney who would take a gentler approach with my divorce because I didn't believe my wife and I had anything to fight over. What should have been peaceful turned into an epic drama over the course of 2 years. Fear and disbelief of the system had me certain the courts would not believe my wife was acting crazy (literally). She lied and was ordered support initially, but Greg turned that around. After multiple court appearances the judge went from siding with my ex to seeing her "crazy" actions and I was awarded primary custody. My daughter and I talk daily, while she studies at UC Davis, because of the incredible work Greg and his team did for me. Mr. McMurray helped us with our guardianship of our grandson, which he handled very professionally and wisdom. Eight years later he helped with the adoption of our grandson, and we couldn't have been more pleased. He knows the law and knows how to navigate trials and lawyers and judges. Greg McMurray is the best attorney I have come across. I'm no expert but his advice and success rate has been 5 star. Within a year of retaining him we went from a bad situation to a complete 180 turn around thanks to his advice and diligence.

Mr. Gregory Mcmurray is an honest and great lawyer. He was upfront honest about how difficult my case was and explained to me with details of the chances of not being able to win my case. He was honest enough that he didnt want to take my case because he knew that it was going to be a difficult case to win. But i insisted he take my case and was very happy he was able to help me with my case. Mr.Mcmurray and his staff have very helpful and they communicate the court results once they are out of court or within 2 hours. Am very thankful and happy with how he handled my case. I hired Gregory because the DMV suspended my driver’s license. I had 4 points in less than a year. At the DMV hearing, Greg was very thorough and well-prepared. Mr. McMurray took on our very complicated adoption case. He explained everything step-by-step and was on top of things at all times.
