I am mediator and arbitrator Mike Black, and I have been working in family law since 1978. For more than 35 years, I have watched the function of a divorce attorney shift and change. Now, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), in the forms of mediation and arbitration, is much more common. These are effective processes to settle a divorce efficiently, affordably and in a manner that best suits each family's specific needs. Since 2015, I have limited my practice to only providing mediation and other ADR services. Over the past 20 years I have assisted nearly 1,000 couples in mediation and ADR, most of whom are referred to me by other attorneys. Throughout my career I have been a member of the American Bar Association (ABA), the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) and the Ramsey County Bar Association (RCBA). I am also member of the Family Law Section in all three of those associations. I also serve on the Memorials Committee for the RCBA.
